It pains me a little bit to see the crank laying on the dirty concrete floor, heh.

Probably one of the many parts being replaced..... Hmm, I wonder if Mazda still has a crank in stock for a 91 626.... TO THE CATALOGS!!
Ninja edit: NOPE.

Weird. The first engine I ever saw inside of was in my dad's old 626. I guess I have that to blame for my current predicament, haha.

Looking at the wrinkles in the right rear inner fender, bad crash repair some time in the past.

Ok am I missing something here? Why didn't Mazda just replace the engine, transmission, maybe put in some new seats, a new dashboard, and an exterior paintjob? It's like Mazda went full-bore crazy here.

It probably had a bunch of rust and damage, and they are doing the job right and restoring everything that needs restoring.

the paint is a little rough too.

It should be the only 626 with a wankle 3plate ^_^

That's pretty cool.
I loved my two 626s, a '97 V6 (with the harmonic intake) and an '89 with a stick that got 42mpg. I wouldn't mind a factory-fresh '97 with an updated powertrain (transmission, mostly)

I gotta agree that at a certain point in age it starts to make more sense to fully restore the body and strip it, than to just replace the drivetrain and replace some parts.

While its cool that he is still rocking a 1991 I would take the totally restored car and drive it a bit less and pick up a 2014 6 Grand Touring because that car is sexy.
